Hey, Cristi Adkins! Vol. 2

[UPDTE]: And Sean Braisted has this hilarious tidbit on Clinton for McCainer Paula Abeles. Comedy gold, I tell ya!

-------------------------

You’re STILL a moron! Someone posting as Cristi Adkins, in comments:
Why do Obama cult members think that if we don't vote for their messiah we're 'GOP' spies? I think you give the GOP a little too much credit.

Step out of the box, be a little more creative and try to stop attacking Clinton supporters.

Follow us over to Clintons4McCain.com

Uh... maybe we think you’re GOP spies because you’re telling us to vote for the Republican? Ya think?

Look, I was a John Edwards supporter. After he dropped out, I said I was fine with either Sen. Clinton or Sen. Obama. But now we’ve got these idiots like Cristi Adkins telling us that if they can’t have Hillary Clinton, the Republican is the next-best candidate. Which, to a hard-core Democrat like myself, makes me really, really, really, really glad that Sen. Clinton isn’t the nominee! If she’s, you know, just like the Republican, well I think I’ll vote for the real Democrat! Thank you!

But, alas, there is more to the story:

The Republican National Committee appears ready to roll out the red carpet for Hillary Clinton supporters, over a newly-registered internet domain ClintonsForMcCain.com.

Though the web address does not yet go anywhere, the RNC registered the domain name on May 15, according to whois data from the registrar Network Solutions. That was nine days after Clinton's disappointing showing in the North Carolina primary, which prompted NBC's Tim Russert to declare the race effectively over for Clinton.

An e-mail to two RNC officials about their plans went unanswered Thursday.

The Republicans appear to be capitalizing on the bitter disappointment, anger and disillusionment that Clinton supporters are feeling right now. Much of it is on display on the web in the comments section on both Clinton's website, as well as that of presumptive Republican presidential nominee John McCain.

Oh, noes!!! Cristi Adkins, you’re so busted!

Edwards Endorses Obama

Breaking on CNN: John Edwards is endorsing Obama. And he's saying some really nice things about Hillary Clinton as he does so:
She cares about our men and women who are putting their lives on the line in Iraq and Afghanistan. This tenacity has shown her strength and determination, she is a woman who in my judgment is made of steel and she's a leader in this country, not because of her husband but because of what she has done. Because of speaking out. Because of standing up.

And when this nomination battle is over, and it will be over soon, brothers and sisters we must come together as Democrats and in the fall stand together for what matters for the future of America and make America what it needs to be. And we are a stronger party because Hillary Clinton is a Democrat. We are a stronger country because of her years of public service and we're going to have a stronger presidential nominee in the fall because of her work.

Now, what brought all of us here is a profound belief that we can change this country. That there are service men and women in Iraq who can come home starting today. That our kids deserve to go to better schools than we went to. That we can run our cars on something other than oil. That have good jobs that fill these empty factories. And that the anxiety that all of our people face every day can change when we finally make two Americas one America. For every single one of us.

Sigh. He was my pick for president. I thought he combined the rhetorical skills of Obama and the steel and strength of Hillary Clinton. Oh well.

Obama it is.

[Update]

And Loud Obbs is throwing a hissy fit that this great show appears to be over. Hilarious.

Clinton Petition

I got a copy of Hillary Clinton’s petition to seat the FL and MI delegates in the e-mail via Emily’s List. That just ticked me off. Look, if Hillary is the nominee, great, she’s got my support. But there’s no need for dishonesty, and comparisons to the 2000 “count the votes” thing are offensive.

In comments at Eschaton Falstaff posted this hilarious video, which illustrates the issue perfectly:

Come off it, already.

The Hatred That Dare Not Speak Its Name

I’ve been going around the block on the Obama v. Clinton, Clinton v. Obama thing. Really, I don’t care which one gets the nomination. They both have terrific credentials. They both have assets that make them great candidates, and they both have negatives.

I wrote earlier about the “Obama is a secret Muslim” lie, which seems to have legs (indeed, a Kansas newspaper reprinted the phony allegations from that e-mail as if they were fact. I wouldn’t be surprised to learn that other small town weeklies have done likewise.)

So when a friend tells me that she thinks Obama will “at least get a honeymoon,” I’m not convinced.

On the other hand, when Hillary Clinton supporters say she’s been “vetted,” I just don’t buy it. The Clinton hatred out there is palpable. A Clinton still can’t get a fair shake by the media (this nonsense from Clown Hall is a case in point, as is this bullshit from ABC News’ Jake Tapper).

The media will peddle the most insane things about a Clinton, just because they can get away with it. No lie is too outrageous, from Bill Clinton being a serial rapist to Hillary Clinton murdering Vince Foster. Really, these right-wing lies set a low bar for what is acceptable from the rest of the punditry. The media has been poisoned by these smears, and we need to quit acting surprised when “legitimate” media figures like Chris Matthews make outrageous anti-Clinton statements. It’s tame compared to what’s been said by DrudgeCo, and is absolutely predictable after 15 years of well-poisoning by the right-wing media.

You’re not vetted, Sen. Clinton, because they keep making up more shit about you, and they show no signs of stopping.

This is going to be a problem if Hillary Clinton is the nominee. But as the “secret Muslim” e-mail makes clear, it’s going to be a problem if Barack Obama is the nominee, too. It's a problem for both candidates, and Obama supporters need to wake up and quit acting like they're getting some kind of pass. You're not.

Bottom line: Democrats need to address this reality, or we’re going to lose in November.

Tired Of People Who Are Tired Of It

I rarely discuss the insane ramblings going on in the local blogosphere here, but when someone writes something this stupid, I have to speak out.

Case in point is this nonsense from local conservative Glen Dean:
Meanwhile, the Guerilla Women use the term misogyny in the title of a post to describe anybody that doesn’t bow at the altar of Billary. I am so sick of seeing that word. It’s like a new word that everybody learned and can’t wait to type themselves. It reminds me of the time bloggers started using the word xenophobe to describe anybody opposed to current immigration policy. The ladies at TGW seem to even be accusing Maureen Dowd of being anti-woman. Good grief.

First of all, Glen, you need to read more. Just because a word is new to you, it doesn’t mean it hasn’t been used for decades to describe something very real. I first learned the word “misogyny” when it was used to describe the late comedian Andy Kaufman--you know, the guy who used to challenge women to wrestling matches. I think he started doing that back in 1979, when I was 17.

Anyway, I’m sorry Glen Dean is tired of misogyny. Oh, the poor dear. Those big long words, with all those funny “y”’s where vowels should be. It’s hard to type, and it’s got that awkward “gyny” thing in there, which makes one think of the wife’s trips to the ob/gyn. Ewwwww., icky!

But you know what? I’m tired of experiencing it. I’m tired of seeing it on TV every night, spewed from the mouth of Chris Matthews as he attacks Hillary Clinton for her cleavage, her pantsuits, her “tears.” I’m tired of seeing this crap presented as some kind of joke, or radio jerks shouting “iron my shirt.” I don’t find it funny.

I don’t expect the Glen Deans of the world to get it; they seem allergic to the concept of putting themselves in anothers’ shoes for five minutes.

We have come a long way--but we still have a long way to go.

And quit calling me “baby.”

Saying No To Colin Powell

What the hell is Hillary Clinton thinking?
“I won’t even wait until I’m inaugurated, but as soon as I’m elected I’m going to be asking distinguished Americans of both parties — people like Colin Powell, for example, and others — who can represent our country well, including someone I know very well,” Mrs. Clinton said, according to a Fox News Web report. “Because I want to send a message heard across the world. The era of cowboy diplomacy is over.”

In Monday’s post I said these clowns should never be trusted with our foreign policy again. And that goes most especially for the guy who gave us this famous moment:

I’m sorry that Powell now wants a do-over, but I’m going to quote the famous Digby on this issue:

Powell himself should never be allowed anywhere near government again.

That goes for every one of the the Iraq War pushers, who by all rights should have been laughed off the world stage years ago. It’s only our celebrity-infatuated media that continues to give these people any credibility. They sure don’t have any anywhere else.

Again, from Digby:

No member of the Bush administration should ever be set out to represent this country abroad again. And aside from Bush, Rumsfeld and Cheney, I can't think of anyone less credible than Colin Powell.

I agree 100%.

Compare, Contrast

Hillary Clinton is taking a lot of heat for a planted question at one of her Iowa campaign appearances:
The Clinton campaign operation in Iowa was forced to admit that it had set up the question on climate change at a town hall rally in Newton last Tuesday. The meeting had been an important set-piece for Clinton, with several members of the national media present.

After Clinton spoke, a student in the crowd was invited to pose a question. "As a young person, I'm worried about the long-term effects of global warming. How does your plan combat climate change?" the student asked.

Okay, I can’t defend this, planting a question when the national media is present is the worst sort of PR manipulation. And this was such a lame setup; Clinton might as well have been wearing an “ask me about global warming!” T-shirt.

But hey, it’s not the worst thing. She wanted to talk about global warming. That’s a softball? It’s not like she set up a phony town hall meeting and filled it with adoring supporters who wanted to know what brand of pantyhose she wears or her favorite lipstick shade. But you’d think she had, judging from the head-spinning rage of folks like Michelle Malkin, who used insults like “crapweasel” and “phony baloney” after the incident.

I don’t recall Malkin having a problem with President Bush’s planted questions or his staged “town hall” meetings that were as scripted as a Tony winning production. (She may have--I’m not, ahem, one of her regular raeders.) Still, wrong is wrong. Let’s hope Hillary has learned her lesson.

That said, let’s do a fun little comparison exercise. Can you spot the phony-baloney crapweasel?

Hillary Clinton:

"As a young person, I'm worried about the long-term effects of global warming. How does your plan combat climate change?"

And now, President Bush, 2007:

What do you pray about, and how we can we pray for you?

Yikes. Let’s try that again.

Hillary Clinton:

"As a young person, I'm worried about the long-term effects of global warming. How does your plan combat climate change?"

And now President Bush, 2004

THE PRESIDENT: You got a question?

Q I, too, want to say God bless you, Mr. Bush. My husband and my twins and I pray for you daily, as do many home schoolers. (Applause.) Thank you for recognizing home schoolers.

THE PRESIDENT: Let's see, who've we got here? You got a question?

Q Yes, sir. Thank you, Mr. President, for visiting Oregon. I've heard through the grapevine that Oregon is one of the most unchurched states in the union, and I really feel like it shows up in every walk of our society. Could you take a moment to pray for Oregon, for us, right now?

[...]

THE PRESIDENT: -- Jack in the Box. Go ahead.

Q -- I want to thank you for everything you did after September 11th. I was in Israel then, and it was hard getting back. And it was very devastating. And you -- no one could have done what you did any better. (Applause.)

Wow, that was fun! Let’s try just one more. Hillary Clinton:

"As a young person, I'm worried about the long-term effects of global warming. How does your plan combat climate change?"

And now President Bush, 2005:

THE PRESIDENT: Yes, sir.

Q Thank you. Senate Democratic leaders have painted a very bleak picture of the U.S. economy. Harry Reid was talking about soup lines, and Hillary Clinton was talking about the economy being on the verge of collapse. Yet, in the same breath, they say that Social Security is rock-solid and there's no crisis there. How are you going to work -- you said you're going to reach out to these people -- how are you going to work with people who seem to have divorced themselves from reality?

Okay, who can spot the phony-baloney crapweasel in these examples. Anyone?

Drudge: Still Wrong

I’m actually not sure who to blame for this: crackpot Sen. James Inhofe or Matt “Who Me? Fact Check?” Drudge. But the latest fauxtroversy to have right wing knickers in a twist is this fabricated conversation that apparently took place between Sen. Barbara Boxer and Hillary Clinton, in which it’s alleged they advocated “a legislative fix” for talk radio. (That would be the same talk radio that Trent Lott decried as “running America,” adding, “We have to deal with that problem.” But I digress.)

The ankle-biters of the right--Free Republic, Faux News, etc.--are already in full dither. Freeper post says “Hillary, Boxer hatch nefarious plot," it’s a major headline at Fox News and since it came from Drudge, I’m sure Politico is already on it.

Guess what, folks: the alleged conversation never happened. Completely made up. TPM has statements from Boxer and Clinton flatly denying the story:
Here's a statement sent to me from Natalie Ravitz, Boxer's communications director:

"Senator Boxer told me that either her friend Senator Inhofe needs new glasses or he needs to have his hearing checked, because that conversation never happened."

And:

And from Hillary spokesman Philippe Reines:
"Jim Inhofe is wrong. This supposed conversation never happened - not in his presence or anywhere else."

I’m sure Drudge and Fox News have already run corrections.
